Ontario reports 496 new COVID cases Friday

The latest updates noted 542 recoveries and two deaths

Public Health Ontario reported 496 new COVID cases today. 

The latest updates noted 542 recoveries and two deaths that have occurred in the last month. 

The Oct. 15 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 3,974 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 4,022 yesterday. 
  • 265 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. 
  • There are 134 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 29 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 83 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 19 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • 10,794,769 Ontarians (about 72 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated and another 588,292 (four per cent of Ontario population) have a single dose of COVID vaccine. 88 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • The new cases reported today include 280 unvaccinated people, 20 partially vaccinated people, and 162 fully vaccinated people.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 7.7 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 2.9 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.4 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • There are 81 unvaccinated, seven partially vaccinated, and 15 fully vaccinated COVID-19 patients in intensive care units.
  • There are 97 unvaccinated, nine partially vaccinated, and 37 fully vaccinated COVID-19 patients hospitalized but not in the ICU. 
  • The province reported 35,905 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.4 per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 74 are from Toronto, 60 are from Peel, 20 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 28 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 87 individuals under 12 years old, 52 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 176 people between 20 and 39 years old, 117 people between 40 and 59 years old, 54 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 10 people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 593,933 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 580,150 recoveries and 9,809 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 30,269 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 5,923 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,031 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 24.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 9.6 per cent compared to the week of Sept. 29.

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 481 cases, weekly rate of 3.4 cases per 100,000 people. There are 6 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 789 cases, weekly rate of 16.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 791 cases. There are 15 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 85 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,212 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,213 cases. There are 2 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,497 cases, weekly rate of 30.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,534 cases. There are 73 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 83 per cent have both doses.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 234 cases, weekly rate of 29.5 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 236 cases. There are 7 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 86 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,186 cases, weekly rate of 3.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,185 cases. There are 2 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 81per cent have both doses.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,397 cases, weekly rate of 0.6 cases per 100,000 people. There are two known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 92 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
