The Algoma Workforce Investment Corp. is holding online workshops designed to assist employers meet and understand the challenges of today's labour market.

These events are designed specifically for the local region and cover a range of topics including employment recruiting and retention, communication of culture and supporting employees with mental health issues.

Following is the news release from AWIC.

The Algoma Workforce Investment Corporation (AWIC) is pleased to announce a series of online workshops designed to help employers, HR professionals, and business owners across the Algoma District address the challenges of today’s evolving labour market. Running from January to March 2025, these workshops are tailored to meet the specific needs of businesses in the region and are offered virtually, making them more accessible to employers in the vast Algoma District.

Highlights of the workshop series include: Building a Strong Employment Value Proposition (EVP): Learn how to attract and retain top talent by defining and communicating your organization’s unique culture, values, and opportunities. Presented by Barbara Wilson of Challenge Factory. Mental Health in the Workplace: Gain practical tools to support employees dealing with mental health challenges, reduce stigma, and foster a psychologically safe work environment.

Led by Sue-Ann Maislin, an award-winning mental health educator with TELUS Health. Employee Development and Succession Planning: Discover strategies to bridge talent and knowledge gaps with activities like mentoring and cross-training, helping your team thrive and ensuring organizational continuity. Facilitated by Jonathan Zinck, a global expert in health and wellness also with TELUS Health.

“We understand that employers today face significant challenges around retention, engagement, and attracting top talent, with mental health being a growing concern,” said Silvia Alves, executive director at AWIC. “These workshops, shaped by insights from our Employer Insights Survey, are designed to provide locally relevant solutions. By offering them online, we ensure that businesses across the vast Algoma District have easy access to valuable resources and support.”
