One new COVID death reported while hospitalizations remain steady: APH

Algoma Public Health is reporting a new COVID-19 death in the region.

Per APH policy, further details on the death were not released. It brings the number of COVID-19 deaths in Algoma to 34.

After a drop in Tuesday's update, the number of hospitalizations in Algoma Public Health's latest COVID-19 update remained steady on Wednesday.

There are 12 hospitalizations in the Algoma region as of 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The number of active cases increased by five in APH's latest update to 620.

There are also three additional active cases that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region, a number that is up by one from Tuesday's update.

The number of new confirmed cases in the region rose by 64 to 5,284 while the number of resolved cases in Algoma is up by 59 to 4,664.

The number of completed tests in the region is up by 790.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
