Northern Ontario Microbrew Festival growing to two-day event

Mark this in your calendar — the third edition of the Northern Ontario Microbrew Festival has grown to a two-day event scheduled for March 10 and 11 at the Caruso Club.

“With the success of this festival the last two years, we’ve decided to expand this into a two-day festival,” said Shawn Mailloux, owner of Stack Brewing, in a press release.

“In 2017, you’ll expect to see many different breweries from all over the North, more rare brews and oddities not normally available in the North, more entertainment, more Ed Sessions, and big acts.”

On March 10, the event, which takes place from 6-11 p.m., is set up to be for the true beer connoisseur.

It’ll feature a smaller amount of breweries showcasing many unique brews including one-offs, seasonals, sours, and casks. This day will also have a strong focus on live music and will feature local legends Murder Murder opening for Elliott Brood.

Elliott Brood is a three-piece Juno Award-winning alt-country band. Their songs are loud and quiet but mostly loud. Across five subsequent albums, Elliott Brood have become one of the premier acts in Canadian roots music.

On March 11, the event, which lasts from 1 to 9 p.m., will feature more than 17 different craft breweries, education sessions, giveaways, the announcement of the winner of Stack’s Homebrew Competition, and more.

Tickets cost $35 for Friday admission, $25 for Saturday admission, $70 for a Baller Pass (full weekend and education session access). With your ticket you receive a branded festival glass, two sample tickets and free access to the official After Party at The Durham Social.
