As part of a pilot program aimed at encouraging children and their parents to make music, CBC Music will visit the Sault this month, offering free lessons on using GarageBand software.

Two CBC Music Jam Squad leaders will be at the North Branch Library at 232 Northern Ave. E. on Saturday, March 18.

They'll lead four one-hour GarageBand workshops for ages 8 to 13.

GarageBand is Apple's powerful digital audio workstation app designed for playing, recording and sharing music without instruments.

Tablets and headphones will be provided for the workshops.

Preregistration is mandatory.

Sault Ste. Marie is one of a dozen Ontario cities chosen to receive the workshops.

The CBC will leave a tablet at each participating library for community use after the workshops.

Jam Squad is produced by CBC Music through the Library Partnership Program.

CBC hopes to take the workshops across Canada following the Ontario pilots in February and March.
