Those hoping to see either James Lubwama (shown in white trunks) or Darnell Wilson crowned as new International Boxing Association cruiserweight champion were disappointed last night as the judges ruled a draw.
The 12-round fight, carried live on the Showtime channel from Kewadin Casino, was scored differently by the three judges (115-113 for Lubwama, 116-112 for Wilson and 114-114) and the title remained vacant.
Lubwama, from Lugazi, Uganda, was a last-minute replacement for Laudelino Barros, who withdrew from the fight.
In other Sault Ste. Marie action, super-middleweights Randy Griffin and Yusef Mack fought to an eight-round draw, and Detroit's Mary Jo Sanders (daughter of former Detroit Lions player Charlie Sanders) took the IBA Continental junior-welterweight title with a 10-round unanimous decision over Chevelle Hallback.
