New North Bay wildfire confirmed Thursday and quickly extinguished

Hazard ranges from low to high across most of region except for two areas of extreme risk north of Cochrane and Kapuskasing

One new wildfire was confirmed today, June 20, but it was quickly extinguished, according to a news release from the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services section of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

The fire, North Bay 8, was a 0.4-hectare fire located one kilometre east of West Aumond Lake, leaving two fires currently in the Northeast Region.The fire hazard ranges from low to high across most of the Northeast Region except for two areas of extreme fire hazard north of Cochrane and Kapuskasing.

Northeast Region   

There was one new wildland fire confirmed today on Thursday, June 20.

  • North Bay 8 (NOR008) was a 0.4-hectare fire confirmed early today and is now out. It was located one kilometre east of West Aumond Lake.

There are currently two active wildland fires in the Northeast Fire Region.

  • Cochrane 8 (COC008) is a 35-hectare fire that is being observed. This fire is located about 57.5 kilometres northwest of Moosonee.
  • Cochrane 9 (COC009) is a 6,022-hectare fire that is being observed. This fire is located east of Parson Lake and eight kilometres west of the Quebec border.

The fire hazard ranges from low to high across most of the Northeast Region except for two areas of extreme fire hazard north of Cochrane and Kapuskasing.
