There’s a new judge in town.

Brian DeLorenzi, a longtime lawyer in Sault Ste. Marie, has been appointed a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

The news was announced today by Arif Virani, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Justice DeLorenzi graduated from law school at the University of Windsor and was admitted to the bar in 2002.

He began his law career as an associate at O’Neill DeLorenzi Cresswell Ostroski — now O’Neill DeLorenzi Nanne — where he has been a partner since 2007. He has worked in all areas of civil litigation, including estate, commercial and employment disputes, but primarily in insurance defence with a focus on personal injury.

An active member of the community, DeLorenzi has served as president of the Algoma District Law Association, as treasurer of the local John Howard Society, and as counsellor and president of the G. Marconi Society. He has also spent a lot of time coaching his kids’ hockey and football teams.

“Justice DeLorenzi and his wife Mary have three children who they are extremely proud of,” says a news release from the Ministry. “He is happiest on his boat and with his family at the cottage on Lake Huron.”

DeLorenzi replaces Justice Edward E. Gareau, who elected to work as a part-time judge effective June 30.
