A new walking trail is now available on St. Joseph Island.

A new 1.5-km public hiking trail is now open on the Gravel Point Preserve on St. Joseph Island.

The announcement of the new trail was made by the Kensington Conservancy on Friday afternoon.

"It is a relatively easy hike with only a couple slight changes in elevation, although there are a few spots where you need to watch your step for roots, rocks, and uneven ground. A trail map is posted at the trailhead," a release from the Conservancy said about the trail.

The trail is located on Highway 548 just south of Hilton Beach.

Parking is available on the east side of the highway approximately 300m south of the intersection with Old Orchard Road and the trail starts at the northeast corner of the parking lot.

Dogs are allowed on the trail, but must be on a leash.

Bicycles and motorized vehicles are not permitted.

A map and more information about the trail can be found here.
