As 34 active wildland fires burn in the Ontario's northeast region today, fire officials were reporting one new fire in the Wawa district.
Wawa 11 is 0.5 hectares and located approximately 2 km northwest of Lurch Lake in Pukaskwa National Park, according to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services for the Northeast Fire Region.
The location is about 40 km west of White River.
Wawa 11 is currently not under control, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's firefighting division said.
Of the other fires currently active in the region, six are under control and one is being held. A total of 26 fires are being observed, meaning they do not currently present a risk to people are property.
Meanwhile, the fire hazard values are moderate to high throughout most of the northeast fire region except for an area west of Cochrane along Highway 11 that has a fire hazard value ranging from low to moderate, according to the AFFES.
