A newly constructed garage on the former site of the Mountain Ash Inn in Heyden is now on the market.
Listed for $699,900 by Green Apple Realty Brokerage, the new build is “perfect for residential and personal garage or shop, or as a business” according to the listing.
Located at 775 Highway 17 North, just before the turnoff on Highway 556, the property was purchased for $125,000 by Daniel Gagne in February 2023 when the derelict Mountain Ash Inn was still standing.
Like the former Pruce's Motor Inn just down the road on Highway 17 — which was also purchased by Gagne — the once hazardous motel site had been concerning residents for a number of years.
Demolition of the former motel took place last winter before a skeleton of the new garage emerged in the spring.
Sitting on 3.6 acres of land, the new 3,200 square-foot property features four bays with overhead doors and includes office space as well as a one-bedroom apartment.
The former Pruce’s, meanwhile, is yet to be demolished. The crumbling two-storey structure has been riddled with vandalism, graffiti, and fires ever since the motel ceased its operations years ago.
SooToday attempted to get ahold of Gagne to discuss the listing, as well as his plans for the Pruce’s site, but he was unavailable for comment.
