Amid the backdrop of a no confidence battle on Parliament Hill that could force a federal election, local New Democrats are looking for a candidate to carry the torch for their party.

And with a redrawn riding map, that candidate will seek to win votes not just in the city but in surrounding communities to the north and east in a new Sault Ste. Marie – Algoma riding.

The New Democratic Party (NDP) invites passionate and progressive individuals to seek nomination as the party’s candidate for the newly formed federal riding of Sault Ste. Marie – Algoma.

As a community-focused, people-first party, the NDP is committed to building a more equitable and inclusive Canada by addressing the real issues Canadians face: affordability, building safer communities, and strengthening health care.

The new federal electoral boundary for Sault Ste. Marie – Algoma marks significant changes for Northern Ontario. Stretching to the north to include Wawa and Dubreuilville, the new riding now covers St. Joseph Island, Thessalon, Blind River, Elliot Lake, Spanish, and extends eastward to parts of Sudbury.

Across Canada, many families are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living. For decades, both Liberal and Conservative governments have slashed services that once made life affordable.

The NDP believes in making different choices – choices that invest in all people, not just the wealthy. The NDP is committed to building safer, vibrant communities by supporting public infrastructure, arts, and culture, we can foster safe, inclusive, and thriving communities for everyone.
