More support for Elliot Lake economic recovery
McGuinty government continuing to boost local economy
Ontario is providing more support for Elliot Lake's revitalization, helping businesses and ensuring the community is informed about recovery efforts.
With support from the province's Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), the Elliot Lake and District Chamber of Commerce is hiring two interns to help with the ongoing revitalization efforts.
A business support intern will coordinate and deliver re-establishment services to the business community while a communications intern will participate on the various recovery committees and help update the public on recovery progress.
Investing in Northern Ontario communities is part of the McGuinty government's Growth Plan for Northern Ontario.
A strong Northern economy creates local jobs and protects the services that mean the most to families - health care and education.
Quick facts
The intern positions are being supported through the NOHFC's Youth Internship and Co-op Program, which has invested nearly $48 million since 2005 to help youth gain important work experience in about 2,500 job placements across Northern Ontario.
Ontario is helping Elliot Lake retailers and workers reopen and rebuild with a two-year, $2 million business continuity fund and a $264,050 Community Adjustment Agreement.
Ontario has set up a temporary provincial economic revitalization office in the community to help the municipality, local businesses and other stakeholders with economic recovery efforts.
