Mini wood fire pizza ovens cooking up pies for concert-goers (6 photos)

Those who went to the Dean Brody show at The Yard on Friday might have seen these

Crowds at the Dean Brody show at The Yard on Friday might have seen some tiny wood fire ovens on the grounds.

Those were mini wood fire pizza ovens cooking up fresh personal sized margarita and pepperoni pizzas served by The Tech and Santini’s Bistro.

“You can smell the fire burning out in the crowd and it draws people in. Everyone really seems to be enjoying our pizza. They’re nice and convenient to walk around with,” said Ari Viitala, kitchen manager for The Tech kitchen.

Viitala said once the coals get going the ovens keep a pretty constant temperature.

Before events, Tech staff prepare all the uncooked-pizzas and then stack them up by the hundreds right on the concert grounds until they’re ready to be cooked and served one-by-one.

The Tech brought them out for the Dallas Smith concert last year and again on Friday, August 5.

They plan to make that a concert and festival staple.

“They go good with a nice cold beer,” said Viitala.
