Military to conduct exercise in Sault Ste. Marie on Nov. 27 and 28

The 49th Field Regiment will be conducting military exercises in Sault Ste. Marie on Nov. 27 and 28.

People can expect to see military vehicles on city streets, and military reservists with weapons in several locations throughout the city.

The purpose of the exercise is to practice their tactics and skills.

The 49th Field Regiment will be conducting an exercise in the city of Sault Ste Marie the weekend of Nov. 27-28, 2021. Approximately 50 Army reservists from local unit will be involved in the exercise. The purpose of this exercise is so that soldiers can practice their tactics and skills during operations. The public is advised that they will see military vehicles travelling in groups during these dates that include Pine St, Wellington Ave, Queen St, Lake St, 2nd Line East/West, and Airport Rd. Soldiers conducting operations may be seen in the vicinity of the Armoury property and other locations within the city to include Pointe des Chenes Park, a snow dump/gravel lot along Great Northern Rd and a snow dump/open field along 2nd Line East near Strathclair Park. The unit will conduct training with personal service weapons. There will be no use of ammunition nor pyrotechnics during the conduct of this exercise.

Motorist are asked to be cautious as the unit will travel in groups on public streets.

Residents should be advises that the soldiers will be carrying service rifles and support weapons.
