The Metis Nation of Ontario (MNO) kicked off its 26th annual general assembly at Bellevue Park Thursday night.
Groups of people arrived at the park on canoes for the event.
Opening ceremonies included welcoming remarks from MNO President Margaret Froh, MNO Historic Sault Ste. Marie Metis Council President Kim Powley and Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett, among others.
The MNO annual general assembly runs Aug. 23-25.
