Are you a youth looking to make a difference in Sault Ste. Marie?

The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) is looking for new members.

The council is made up of up to 12 people between the ages of 14 and 24 who advise city council on important issues of concern to the city’s younger population.

“The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council is a great platform for youth to share their ideas, passion and vision for Sault Ste. Marie,” said Mayor Matthew Shoemaker.

“We are excited to welcome new members who are eager to make a difference, and I encourage all interested young people to apply.

“This is a unique opportunity to actively contribute to the growth and development of our community, while gaining valuable leadership experience.”

Eligible applicants must be enrolled in secondary or post-secondary school in Sault Ste. Marie. Those under the age of 18 will need permission from a parent or guardian.

Meetings occur one evening a month and the time commitment is roughly eight to 13 hours a month. Time spent on council activities can be used toward the community service hours required to graduate high school.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 22.
