The chief of the Wikwemikong Tribal Police has been found guilty of sexual assault.
Terry McCaffrey, who was suspended when he was first charged in January 2021, was convicted April 25 in Gore Bay following a week-long trial in March. The police service services Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island.
There is a publication ban that prevents information that would identify the victim from being published.
McCaffrey was charged with sexual assault after a woman alleged he had grabbed her breast in March 2019. In January 2021, provincial police launched an investigation into the historical allegation.
The matter will return May 10 to set a date for sentencing.
