A priceless collection of memorabilia related to construction of the Mackinac Bridge was destroyed by fire yesterday.

Media reports indicate it took 100 firefighters about two hours to control the blaze at Mama Mia's Pizzeria in Mackinaw City.

The fire also destroyed a privately owned historical museum upstairs.

At one point, the floor broke through during yesterday's fire.

Employees in the restaurant escaped safely.

"Anything about that bridge they had it and they pretty much lost it all," Mackinaw City Fire Chief Fred Thompson told the Traverse City Record-Eagle.

One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.

One report suggested that employees believed the fire started in the electric sign shown in this photo submitted by a SooToday.com reader.
