Pink hospice

Tracy Holt (front, third from left), director of Hospice of the EUP, accepts the first of three installments to total $25,000 from Lake Superior State University's annual Pink in the Rink hockey benefit.

The fourth annual benefit weekend took place when Laker hockey hosted Northern Michigan University December 9-10.

The Lakers traditionally play in custom pink jerseys, such as Holt is wearing in this photo.

About $25,000 was raised from raffles for prizes donated by local vendors and through sales of "Pink in the Rink" t-shirts, pink popcorn and chocolate chip cookies, and commemorative team photos.

Other area support programs for women and girls benefited from the event, also.

The three-year commitment to Hospice of the EUP will be used to help fund Hospice House, a $900,000 five-bed, home-environment style house in Sault Ste. Marie that will provide hospice services for families in Chippewa, Luce and Mackinac counties.
