Jake Corbiere, age 38, has been missing since March 12. He was last seen in the Churchill Avenue area of Sault Ste. Marie.

The sister of a Sault man who has been missing for over a month is asking the public for help in locating him.

Jake Corbiere, age 38, was last seen March 12, almost six weeks ago.

“This is out of his character, especially for this long,” said Christina Cobiere, Jake’s older sister. “A day or two, maybe, but it’s been well over a month now.”

In news releases sent about the disappearance, Sault Police say Jake was last seen in the Churchill Avenue area. He is described as 5’8” tall with a thin build, brown eyes and short brown hair.

Christina noted her brother's hair has a reddish tone.

Asked if she could think of where else he could be, Christina said Jake would hang out around John Street, the Station Mall and near R.J.’s Market.

“He loved to go to Whitefish Island on his own just to be alone and take pictures of nature,” said Christina. “Loved by everybody, that guy. He’s very friendly and gets along with everyone.”

She said her brother isn’t someone who would ask for help if needed.

“He’s more of a person who would try to figure out solutions on his own,” she said.

The worst part, said Christina, is not knowing what has happened to her little brother.

“There’s been no bank activity, either, so it’s worrying now — we always have been — and now the rumours have started,” said Christina.

She is asking for the public’s help in keeping an eye out for her brother and for people to actively look on their property in places he could be.

“If you have a boarded-up home and you haven’t been there maybe you can go check it out and see, especially in the west end area, where he hangs out,” she said.

Anyone with information regarding Jake Corbiere’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 705-949-6300.
