Parts of Lock City Dairies' new bovine statue that used to be pink have been repainted a much lighter, strawberry-tinted off-white colour.

Company officials confirmed today that the paint coverup was done by Lock City staff last night around 7 p.m.

The statue, showing a large-uddered cow mounted atop an erect bull, drew criticism from people who thought it too anatomically correct.

However, in media interviews this week, Lock City's Vic Fremlin argued that the controversial pink male genitalia were significantly undersized.

Fremlin says not all of the sculpture's controversial aspects were repainted last night, but the upper portion of the bull's penis was covered up with a pink-toned off-white paint.

"I just toned it down a bit," Fremlin told SooToday.com.

Fremlin said he's been getting phone calls from across Ontario about the statue. Reaction, he says, has been 95 percent for, five percent against.

"I thought some people were putting too much emphasis on the penis, so why not tone it down so they could concentrate on the whole structure, not just one point?" Fremlin told us.

Even so, the repainting of the statue has drawn criticism.

When Fremlin arrived at work today, he found a pink-coloured note taped to the dairy door, asking that the penis be restored to its original pink splendour.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: To the best of our knowledge, the Lock City bull has not yet been named. SooToday.com invites our readers to submit appropriate names for this poor guy whose privates have been painted strawberry-vanilla. Please use the News Response forum in our Editorial section.)
