Sault Ste. Marie residents affected by brain injuries will soon have a chance to connect with local resources and services at a special event.
The Brain Injury Association of Sault Ste. Marie & District (BIASSMD) is hosting its third annual Local Resource Meet & Greet on Thursday, April 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will be hosted at the Quattro Hotel at 229 Great Northern Rd.
This free event aims to raise awareness about resources, education and support available to anyone in the community impacted by brain injury.
“The goal of the event is to have as many local resources and services that work within the brain injury community all in one room," said Chantal Scopacasa, executive director and peer support coordinator at BIASSMD.
Currently, 22 organizations have registered to participate, with registration open until April 3 for interested businesses.
Scopacasa highlighted the importance of such events.
“We’re very underserviced in Northern Ontario,” she said.
“So I always get people calling me, looking for services and resources that we have here locally, whether they’re funded by government or private pay.”
The event, sponsored by Oatley Vigmond, Ontario’s personal injury law firm, will provide light snacks and refreshments.
No tickets or pre-registration are required for attendees.
For those unable to attend, Scopacasa encourages reaching out directly to the association for information about brain injury resources.
“I just want to give people hope and a feeling of comfort knowing that even though there’s not much, there are different resources there to help people affected by brain injury,” she said.
“Whether it’s the survivor or the caregiver.”
BIASSMD is still seeking additional sponsors and registrants for the event. Contact Chantal Scopacasa at (705) 971-1050 for more information.
