Sault Ste. Marie's Randolph Dunlop won $250,000 and retired shortly after his win.

Randolph Dunlop's country music fandom — and a little bit of intrigue — led to a big lottery win.

The Sault resident won a $250,000 top prize on OLG's Instant "Living Lucky with Luke Combs" game.

"I always try new tickets when they come out," the 72-year-old said. "I won on my lucky number, 23."

Purchasing his usual tickets at the grocery story, Dunlop said as a country music fan "I was intrigued when I saw the Luke Combs ticket."

“I bought one and won $10 on it, so I decided to get another one," Randolph said. "That one ended up being a $250,000 win!”

After careful consideration, Dunlop decided to retire.

“I look forward to enjoying some time to myself,” he said. “I plan to relax, take it easy, and celebrate my win. This has been a wonderful experience and I feel unbelievably lucky.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Todd’s Your Independent Grocer on County Road 21 in Haliburton.
