A local doctor will be at The Loft next month to discuss her new book.
Presented by Sault Area Hospital Foundation and Tagona Press, “In conversation with Dr. Pat Zehr” goes Thursday, May 2.
Zehr’s second novel Peggy was Right is a fictional story about an Ontario nurse who takes a job in Texas – a state with one of the highest U.S. maternal mortality rates.
It focuses on reproductive rights issues.
“The politicizing of healthcare has always been dangerous,” said Dr. Zehr in a news release.
“As a woman, as a Canadian and as a retired healthcare worker of 43 years, I’m offering a unique perspective on the increasing challenges for all people, but especially for women to get the healthcare they need and deserve.”
Publisher Bryan Davies adds Peggy was Right is a “must-read for anyone who has navigated the turbulent waters of healthcare, felt the sting of systemic indifference, or fought for the right to make choices about their own body.”
The evening – moderated by Christine Simpson, the Sexual Assault Care Centre’s nurse clinical leader – will include a reading along with a Q&A and a book signing.
Funds raised from the event will support the Sexual Assault Care Centre.
