Local awards to honour 'public health champions'

Algoma Public Health is asking residents to nominate local people and organizations in Algoma for the 2023 Public Health Champion Award.

Nominations close on Jan. 10, 2024. Winners will be presented at the Jan. 24 Board of Health meeting. 

The award is meant for anyone who helps to protect and promote community health and advance health equity in Algoma, whether through leading, collaborating, innovating, or fostering opportunities for health for all, a news release said,

A Public Health Champion might be an individual or organization that:

  • Makes a difference by working with local government to make positive changes in the community.
  • Brings together community partners to work together to improve the overall health of the population in Algoma.
  • Empowers groups within the community and helps build equal opportunities for priority populations to attain their full health potential.
