Two local arts organizations are receiving funding from the federal government.
The Fringe North International Theatre Festival is receiving $30,100, while the Over the Rainbow Children’s Entertainment will get $27,000.
Fringe North is a theatre festival featuring the talents of international and local performers that happens every year in Sault Ste. Marie. Theatre, busking, arts and music are among the entertainment that attendees can enjoy at a low cost. Over the Rainbow Children’s Entertainment is a not-for-profit volunteer organization and Sault Ste. Marie’s first live theatre series for kids.
In a press release issued this afternoon, MP Terry Sheehan notes the many spin-off benefits of these organizations toour local community.
“This grant will make it possible for us to continue our mandate to bring in world class professional entertainers and ensure opportunities for the children/youth of Sault Ste. Marie to experience live performances,” said Sandra Houston, Over the Rainbow Children’s Entertainment.
Tova Arbus, president of Fringe North says that the organization is committed to creating new and sustainable opportunities in the arts and culture sector.
“We are so grateful to announce several paid positions for youth this year, made possible by funding and support from the Canada Summer Jobs program. We are also thrilled to be able to pay artists this year, with funding from Canadian Heritage,” she said.
