Load restrictions on city streets start next week

The restrictions take effect to help protect roads during the spring thaw

With warmer weather in the forecast, load restrictions on streets in the Sault will take effect beginning on Monday.

In a release, the city confirmed the restrictions begin at 12:01 a.m. Monday.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie advises truck owners/operators that reduced load restrictions (5 tonnes per axle) will be in effect on city streets at 12:01 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2025.

Under the Highway Traffic Act, the province enforces reduced load restrictions on trucks to protect Ontario's highways during spring thaw, when road damage is most likely to occur. Streets exempted from these regulations are listed online at saultstemarie.ca/bylaws under Traffic By-law 77-200 Schedule ‘M and N’ – Section 41.
