Latest on the new twin-pad arena

Five parts of the McMeeken Centre replacement building will be offered to tenants

City officials are preparing to issue a request for proposals for private-sector tenants in the new twin-pad arena under construction on Goulais Avenue.

On Monday, City Council is expected to approve offer five areas of the still-under construction building to commercial tenants.

One space on the ground floor is expected to be occupied by a pro shop.

The four other areas are between the ice pads on the upper level.

City staff have already received inquiries from the local business community about availability of space in the building.

If all five spaces are leased, minimum revenue for the city is estimated at between $20,000 and $25,000.

Evaluation criteria are expected to be based on the following:

  • fit for space
  • business experience of the provider
  • monthly rent proposed (utility share and property taxes applicable)
  • portion to cover utilities
  • portion to cover taxes as applicable
  • hours of operation
  • explain how the business further activates the facility

Monday's City Council meeting will be live-streamed on SooToday starting at 4:30 p.m.
