An Ontario Provincial Police RIDE check in Laird Township on Wednesday led to one driver being charged with impaired driving.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) unit conducted the check near Pumpkin Point Road.

Shortly after 5 p.m., a small pickup truck entered the checkpoint.

While speaking to the driver, police developed grounds to believe that alcohol had been consumed and subsequently arrested the driver, who was transported to Sault Ste Marie Detachment for further testing.

David Lee, 37, from Laird Township is charged with:

  • operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The truck was towed and impounded for seven days and the driver was also issued a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension.

The allegation has not been tested in court and Lee is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
