Citing a lack of proper heating and "unstable ownership at its current location," SOYA (Save Our Young Adults) is preparing to move to a new location at 179 Gore St.

In order to do so, SOYA is issuing a call to area residents and businesses for donations to help cover the costs of renovations at the new location.

"Financial and in-kind donations will help update the building’s interior, refresh paint and flooring, and create functional, welcoming spaces for our volunteers, service providers, and those supported by SOYA’s services," says a news release issued by SOYA.

Upgrades and renovations are expected to run approximately $20,000, the release says.

SOYA (Save Our Young Adults) is excited to announce the upcoming launch of its new location at 179 Gore St.

SOYA is gearing up to transform this site, with a long history in our community as both a pharmacy and flower shop, into a space dedicated to providing essential services to those experiencing substance use disorder and homelessness in our community.

With no heat and unstable ownership at its current location on Gore Street, it is essential for SOYA to move into a safe, stable location before the cold winter months.

With support from the District Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB), SOYA has acquired the 179 Gore St. building and is now preparing to move into that space, but it is calling on the community to support the renovations needed to make the property a safe, sustainable space for SOYA’s future.

Financial and in-kind donations will help update the building’s interior, refresh paint and flooring, and create functional, welcoming spaces for our volunteers, service providers, and those supported by SOYA’s services.

Overall, it is anticipated that renovations will cost approximately $20,000.

"SOYA is beyond grateful for this exciting new chapter for our organization and for our community,” said SOYA President Connie Raynor-Elliott. “Together, we have the power to make a significant difference in the lives of many.”

SOYA invites community members to help make a difference by supporting this renovation. Here’s how to help:
    •    Donate: Financial contributions to SOYA’s renovation fund are invaluable to this mission.
    •    In-Kind Contributions: Materials such as paint, flooring, partitions, and other building supplies will help make the space ready to offer services.
    •    Join the Challenge: Local businesses can lead by example, investing in a lasting resource that will serve our community’s future and challenging others to do the same.
