Kim Zettler resigned yesterday as manager of the Downtown Association, SooToday.com has learned.

The Downtown Association has yet to acknowledge the news, but a Sault College official confirmed this afternoon that Zettler will be announced next week as director of the Sault College Foundation.

Reached at home by SooToday.com, Zettler said that her resignation was unrelated to yesterday's news that the association will no longer manage the Let it Ride Motorcycle Rally, Reynolds Memorial 4-on-4 Street Hockey Challenge and Taste of Sault Ste. Marie, allowing local groups to take over those popular events.

"I was hired as a turnaround agent," Zettler told us.

"I believe I did all of the things I was hired to do," she said.

Zettler said she guided the Downtown Association through strategic planning, vision work and economic development, and the organization has an excellent business plan that is so far largely unimplemented.

The board has recently changed directions, she added.

"I need to be challenged a little bit more," Zettler told SooToday News.

She'll start her new position at the Sault College Foundation on March 3.

SooToday.com general manager Dick Peplow announced today that Zettler is also joining our editorial staff. For details, please click on the "Editorials" link at the left of this page.
