Aiden Floyd-Lapinskas died at the age of three at the hands of his mother's boyfriend, the man entrusted with his care at the time.
The Sault Star tonight reports that James Purcell (shown) admitted to killing the toddler on November 16, 2009 but, he said, he didn't plan to kill the child.
In a plea bargain that reduced his charge from second degree murder, Purcell pled guilty to manslaughter in the death of the child.
Floyd-Lapinskas died of brain damage four days after Purcell injured him.
Purcell was today sentenced to the equivalent of seven and a half years taking into account a 42-month credit for time served, says the Star
