Justin MacKenzie, winner of the Bon Soo Rail Jam’s $20 prize for best trick, had another trick up his sleeve.

While executing the 270 that won him the prize, he dislocated his shoulder.

But the judges of the Bon Soo event yesterday didn't even know about it.

"I've got a trick shoulder," said MacKenzie (shown). "Its always popping out."

"Justin's shoulder is almost never in," said event sponsor and co-organizer, Brian Anstess, operator of Heyden Adventure Base Camp.

Justin and many others are regular boarders up at the Base Camp and that’s where Anstess says he got the idea for this Bon Soo premier event.

"Initially we were approached by Bon Soo and they wanted to involve the youth a little more," said Anstess.

After talking with his regulars and giving the matter some thought, Anstess said he decided to go with Rail Jam.

Anstess and the boarders were pleased with the opportunity to show some people with little previous exposure to the sport how it's done.

"It gives them a little more exposure in the community. whereas usually their sport is isolated out at the ski area and so the general public doesn't usually get an opportunity to get out and see them," said Anstess. "And as you can see they’re amazing." Installation of the four rails that the snowboarders and skiers used on Sunday was supervised by Matt China a champion snowboarder with several years experience out west.

The folks at Heyden Adventure Base Camp built the 26' rail specially for the Bon Soo event.

They'll be installing it at the ski area for everyone to try out shortly.

Rail Jam also featured tunes spun by DJ Frosty.
