A Sault Ste. Marie youngster is basking in the glow of a national championship.
Josh Wilson-Benoit came home a winner after competing last week in 2010 Canadian Junior and Youth Boxing Championships in Halifax. The 15-year-old claimed his title in the 75-kilo category for males.
He entered the finals undefeated and kept his record intact.
Reports say Josh took control of the match early, scoring points regularly and controlling the ring en route to a 9-0 triumph. Titles aren’t new for the athletic teen.
He was the 2009 provincial novice champion and the 2009 provincial uncontested open champion.
It’s believed Josh is the first local fighter in 20 years to win a Canadian boxing crown.
The talented boxer has now set his sights on the 2012 Olympics.
