Joel Poluck has the tires gone missing blues (5 photos)

SooToday.

SooToday.com readers may remember Joel Poluck as the real-life guitar hero, blues genius and photographer from the Sault who rediscovered and joined blues legend Floyd Lee to create and release several very successful CDs and to star in an award-winning documentary.

These days he's got a new gig at World Cars Hyundai but it got a lot tougher on Friday morning.

Some of the vehicles he's trying to sell are missing tires.

It makes test driving them kind of impossible and the test drive is often the deciding factor for perspective buyers.

"I can still sell them because they are good vehicles but it sure makes it a lot harder when they are missing some tires," Poluck told SooToday.com

When staff arrived at World Cars on Friday morning they found two of the Santa Fe's up on blocks and missing two tires on each of them.

Apparently, thieves took pieces of broken cement blocks from under a transport trailer parked behind the dealership.

They then jacked up one Santa Fe and removed the two driver's side tires, set the SUV down on the blocks and replaced the lug nuts.

Next they moved on to the Santa Fe beside it and removed the two back tires.

Again, they set it down on blocks and replaced the lug nuts.

How does staff know what happened some time late Thursday or early Friday?

Video cameras, of course.

There are 16 state-of-the-art video cameras on site and they cover the entire dealership complex inside and outside, says World Cars Dealer Principal John Dick.

That's how the staff at World Cars and the Sault Ste. Marie City Police know that the vehicle the thieves were driving was a light colour, probably silver or white, with a single dark coloured front quarter panel on the driver's side, probably dark blue, green or black.

Dick says he believes the vehicle the thieves drove off with the tires in was also a Santa Fe.

"None of the tires they took fit that vehicle and the tires they took are two different sizes," said Dick.
