The City of Sault Ste. Marie will be receiving a quarterly payment of over $360,000 for hosting the local Gateway Casino.
The fourth quarter payment, which covers the period running from Jan. 1 to March 31, is a total of $362,099.
During OLG’s fiscal year (April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024), Sault Ste. Marie received $1,411,083 from OLG for hosting the casino — and more than $35-million overall since the site opened in May 1999.
These payments to host communities are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.
The payments are put toward priorities such as infrastructure and parks and recreation.
“Municipality Contribution Agreement payments are an important source of funding for Ontario communities, and help deliver vital services that the people of Ontario enjoy,” said Ross Romano, Member of Provincial Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, in a news release. “Our local casino offers good, local jobs and plays a critical role in supporting in our economy, making a real difference for Sault Ste. Marie.”
