International Bridge traffic up nearly 20 per cent in January

Commuter fares represented 51.5 per cent of all crossings last month

Traffic on the international bridge joining the two Saults was up 18.5 per cent in January compared to the same month in 2023.

The International Bridge Administration today announced in a news release that one-way traffic crossings was 66,555 for January 2024, an increase of 10,393 over 2023.

Commuter fares represented 51.5 per cent of all crossings last month.

Cars pulling trailers was the only category which showed a decrease, -28.9 per cent, which is not a surprise in the winter months.

The January 2024 numbers at a glance are:

  • Full-Fare Passenger Cars: 26,053 (12.6 per cent increase)
  • Commuter Fare: 34,305 (28.9 per cent increase)
  • Cars Pulling Trailers: 543 (28.96 per cent decrease)
  • Commercial Trucks: 5.,654 (0.2 per cent increase)

The International Bridge funds operational costs with toll revenue, including the bridge structure, maintenance facilities, the Bridge Authority toll plaza, and building maintenance. The bridge has processed 105.5 million bridge crossings since 1962.
