International Bridge crossings take a dip

So far this year, they're down 2.6 per cent compared to 2016

The International Bridge Administration Wednesday announced that one-way traffic crossings of the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie totaled 88,185 for the month of February 2017. This represents a decrease of 1.0 per cent, a difference of 923 crossings, as compared to February 2016.

Traffic for calendar year 2017 has totaled 181,817 vehicles; this represents a decrease of 2.6 per cent as compared to 2016.

Bridge revenue for the first two months of 2017 was up 5.5 percent as compared to last year. Commercial crossing fares represented 46.1 percent of the total earned toll revenue of $909,972 USD.

Bridge operations and maintenance are not subsidized by any state, provincial, or federal government entity. The operation and maintenance of the International Bridge, including the Canadian and U.S. toll plazas, is totally self-funded through bridge tolls.
