Officers with the Explosives Disposal Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service have completed their assessment of the potentially explosive device located during the secondary search of a vehicle at the Canadian Border Services Agency at 125 Huron Street in Sault Ste. Marie at 2:20 p.m. today.
Officers have determined that the item is an inert replica grenade. There is no threat to public safety and traffic on the International Bridge will open shortly.
The investigation is continuing.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. today officers with The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a call for service at the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) located at 125 Huron Street in Sault Ste. Marie.
Officers with the CBSA located a small potentially explosive device during a secondary vehicle search and contacted the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
At this time the International Bridge is closed to Traffic and the area has been evacuated.
There is no immediate threat to public safety however, we ask that members of the public remain away from this area while officers with the Explosives Disposal Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service complete their assessment.
