An inmate at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre has died while in custody, says the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
The ministry says paramedics were called to the correctional facility Wednesday after staff found an inmate unresponsive in his cell.
A ministry spokesperson tells SooToday that "correctional staff are trained to provide emergency medical care including CPR and other life saving measures to inmates found in medical distress."
The inmate was pronounced dead at hospital.
The Ministry of the Solicitor General says the Office of the Chief Coroner will conduct an investigation to determine cause and manner of death.
Additional details are not being released by the province at this time.
"The ministry cannot provide further details as a number of investigations are underway," the ministry spokesperson said.
