************************* A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my friends and family back in Sault Ste. Marie.
I just moved to London, England in November so I wasn’t able to make the trip back home for the holidays.
I moved here with my friend Megan who is from Timmins and we’re both supply-teaching.
So far, the adjustment hasn’t been too difficult.
Looking the opposite way when crossing the street has taken a bit of getting used to, though.
Thankfully, there are usually directions painted on the road at crosswalks telling you which way to look!
Megan and I just came back from spending our first week of Christmas vacation in Austria.
We were blessed to be able to spend the week with fellow Saultites including the Rebek, Wilson and Jarrett families.
It was fun to be with others from back home, enjoying a glass or two of gluhwein at the Christmas markets, while reminiscing about Sault Ste. Marie and things like how much we all miss the pizza there.
It’s amazing how people from the Sault seem to find each other all over the world.
I have so many memories of watching the World Juniors at this time of year with my friends and family back home.
The only hockey I’ve found on television here was on at 7 a.m. in the morning, so I was worried I wouldn’t be able to catch any of the games and cheer on Team Canada.
To my surprise, I found a station last night that carried it so I’ll be here cheering the team on from this side of the world!
It’s not easy being away from home over the holidays, but being with other people from back home helped a lot!
I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
I love and miss you all so much!!
- Kaitlin Boniferro
