Housing complex suffers damage after fire in Batchewana

Snow plows had to work quickly to create paths for emergency crews to get in and out of the area

Emergency crews are in Batchewana First Nation this afternoon after a fire appeared to have started in a housing complex on Frontenac Street.

Significant damages to the upper level of several units in the complex were visible as Sault Fire Services and Sault Police investigated the scene.

Heavy snowfall from this morning meant plows had to work quickly to create paths for emergency crews to get in and out of the area.

There were no visible flames by the time SooToday arrived on the scene around 3:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and no injuries have been reported.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
