Hospitalizations up, active COVID cases rise slightly: APH

The number of hospitalizations increased on Wednesday after a small decline of one on Tuesday

After a slight decrease on Tuesday, the number of hospitalizations in Algoma related to COVID-19 rose by four in Wednesday's Algoma Public Health update.

Hospitalizations stand at 21 on Wednesday, up from 17 in Tuesday's report.

With 55 new confirmed cases in the region on Wednesday and 47 resolved cases, the active case count in Algoma is 555, which is up by eight from Tuesday.

There are also two additional active cases in the region that are non-Algoma residents temporarily in the region.

The number of tests completed in Algoma rose by 361 on Wednesday to 231,966.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
