The latest COVID-19 numbers from Algoma Public Health show an increase of five hospitalizations in the region from Wednesday's update.
There are currently nine individuals in hospital as of Thursday afternoon and one additional person in hospital that is a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.
Thursday's update shows an increase of 62 confirmed COVID cases in Algoma, which brings the total number of confirmed cases in the region since the start of the pandemic to 2,463.
The region currently has 645 active cases, up 29 from Wednesday's list while the number of resolved cases in Algoma stands at 1,818, a difference of 33 from Wednesday's total of 1,785.
Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
