Hospitalizations rise while active COVID case count drops: APH

The number of hospitalizations is up by five from Friday's update

Algoma Public Health is reporting that the number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations is up in the Algoma region.

The number of hospitalizations stands at 19, up by five from Friday's APH update.

There is one additional hospitalization that is a non-Algoma resident temporarily in the region.

The active number of cases in Algoma dropped sharply from Friday's update. 

APH reported 558 active cases on Saturday, down 33 from 24 hours earlier.

There are two additional active cases that are non-Algoma residents temporarily in the area as well.

The number of resolve cases rose by 64 on Saturday to 3,437 while the number of confirmed cases in Algoma stands at 3,995, which is up by 31 from Friday.

A total of 455 additional tests were completed prior to Saturday's update, bringing the total to 230,558.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
