The number of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 as well as the number of patients admitted to hospital for COVID-related reasons are down slightly in the latest update from Algoma Public Health.
Hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID are down by two from Wednesday's update to a total of 19 while the number of patients admitted to hospital for COVID-related reasons is also down by two and is now seven.
The number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID is currently at five, which is up by one in Thursday's update while the number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons is down to one.
The active case count in the region is currently 442, which is up by 16 from Wednesday.
APH is reporting 57 new confirmed cases in Algoma and 41 new resolve cases.
The number of confirmed cases since the beginning of 2022 is currently 4,857, with a total of 7,061 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Resolved cases in the region since the beginning of the pandemic is 6,619.
Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
