Hospitalizations drop, active COVID cases rise: APH

Hospitalizations in the Algoma region have dropped in the latest COVID-19 numbers update released by Algoma Public Health.

The number of hospitalizations in Algoma dropped to 14 in Friday's update from 18 on Thursday.

The hospitalization numbers also include one additional person who is a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.

The number of active cases in Algoma rose by 23 on Friday to 591. There are also two additional active cases in the region that are individuals who are non-Algoma residents temporarily in the region.

The confirmed case count rose by 75 from Thursday's update to a total of 3,964.

There have been 3,373 resolved cases in Algoma, up 52 from Thursday.

The number of tests completed stands at 230,103, which is up by 441 from Thursday.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
