Algoma Public Health is reporting that hospitalizations have decreased by four and there are five new confirmed cases of COVID-19, though those numbers may be an underestimation due to limits on who can be tested.
There are currently 600 active cases, 14 people in hospital with COVID-19 in the Algoma Region (plus one hospitalization in a non-Algoma resident who's residing in the region), and 57 cases have been resolved since the last report.
APH has conducted 335 tests since the last report.
Since Oct. 1, 2021, 72.9 per cent of hospitalizations in Algoma were in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals, and 27.1 per cent were in fully vaccinated individuals.
So far, 82.4 per cent of the eligible population, ages 5 and up, have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in the region.
Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
