Hospitalizations decline, APH reports slight uptick of active COVID cases

Wednesday's report includes an additional 47 resolved COVID cases in the region in addition to 53 new cases

The latest COVID-19 report from Algoma Public Health showed a decline in hospitalizations from Tuesday.

APH is reporting 17 hospitalizations in the region, down two from 24 hours earlier.

There is one additional hospitalization in the region that is a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.

With 53 newly confirmed cases in the region on Wednesday, the number of active cases in Algoma is 570 (with two additional cases not included that are non-Algoma residents temporarily in the region). The active case count is up by four from Tuesday's report.

APH is also reporting an increase of 47 resolved cases in the region.

The number of tests completed in Algoma stands at 229,128, up by 425 from Tuesday.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
